UPDATE: The MMCC will be requiring all patients to have MMCC-issued ID cards to purchase cannabis in 2019. New patients that register after January 1, 2019 will be required to purchase their cards at registration; existing patients will be required to have their cards no later than April 1, 2019.

Important Information about Eligibility

Who can apply for a Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) Card?

Maryland residents are eligible to register if their provider has approved medical cannabis as a treatment option for certain qualifying conditions. Non-Maryland residents who are living in Maryland because they are receiving medical treatment here are also eligible. Non-residents will need to provide contact information for the Maryland medical facility where they receive treatment. Qualifying medical conditions include, but are not limited to, cachexia, anorexia, wasting syndrome, chronic or severe pain, severe nausea, seizures, severe or persistent muscle spasms, glaucoma, and post-traumatic stress disorder. PLEASE NOTE THAT PATIENTS IN HOSPICE WILL BE GIVEN PRIORITY IN THE MMCC APPLICATION PROCESS.

What if I am a Caregiver for a Minor Seeking Access to Medical Cannabis?

It is possible for minors to benefit from medical cannabis, however, they are required to have at least one caregiver assigned to their account. Only parents or legal guardians are eligible to serve as caregivers. Caregivers must first register with the MMCC prior to registering a minor. Registering a minor patient requires additional forms, one of which must be notarized, so please carefully review the process by which you can help a young person in your care find relief.
